The new Samsung devices are the best android devices to hit the market in my opinion. The workmanship in both these devices is outstanding. The Gorilla Glass on both sides of the device and the curved edges give the devices an iPhone-esque appeal but the metal gives it a strength and durability that make appear stronger. Both sport an impressively vivid 5.7 inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. Really the big difference is that the Edge has the curved edge glass and the Note has a stylus and some software that make writing notes useful by turning it into typed text which you can use in email or other documents. So, if you like writing notes, the Note will probably be the better device for you. If not, the lighter weight of the Edge + will make it your favorite device.
The Hardware
Both devices are made out of the same high grade material and have the same internal hardware. The S6 Edge+ is lighter and .7 millimeters thinner than the Note 5, but the curved glass could cost as much as $200 if you need to replace it. You can get either device with 32 or 64 gig of storage. There is no memory card add-on option, and you can’t easily swap out the battery either.
There is a 5 megapixel front facing, and a 16 megapixel back side camera. This provides excellent photography capability except for in low-light situations. The processor is the ultra fast Samsung 2.1 Gigahertz Exynos 7420 64-bit 8- core processor. The battery life is increased with a quickcharge feature and an improved battery.
The Software
A key feature of these devices is support for both Samsung Pay and for Google Pay. Samsung Pay is still in beta testing, but Samsung claims that it will have a much wider acceptance than either Apple Pay or Google Pay since it can work with almost any card-swipe payment system. The Samsung Voice feature is similar to Siri on the Apple side. It allows you to name it so you can customize its voice activation cue. Samsung’s Voice works side by side the Google Now assistant but you can opt to use Google Now if you prefer. Samsung has developed competing apps with Google for photos, video, music, email and more. So, you will have a choice in using Samsung or Google apps for many of your common tasks.
The Pricing
Pricing depends on the carrier. However, if you buy the devices outright, the 32 gig model will go for between $650 and 800. Most people will buy it under contract with a carrier and pay under $300 for each device. Although there are other Android phones on the market, some that are half the price, some that have a slightly better camera, etc. I feel that the Samsung product is worth the extra money and is the top of the heap in terms of total value and set of features.
